Malayalam Voice Typing in MS Word & Google Docs

Writing a Malayalam document in Microsoft Word or Google Docs is where typing pain is worst. A WhatsApp message you can keep short; a letter, an assignment, or a report is hundreds of words. Hunting for letters on a Malayalam keyboard for that long is exhausting. Speaking it is not.

This guide shows the fastest way to get clean മലയാളം into Word or Docs: voice type it in Parayoo, then paste.

Why not type directly in Word?

Word and Google Docs don't convert Manglish, and their built-in dictation either doesn't support Malayalam well or isn't dialect-aware. You'd have to install a Malayalam keyboard, learn the layout, and still fix chillu and conjuncts by hand. For a long document that's a lot of friction.

Voice typing in a dedicated Malayalam tool avoids all of it — you speak, it writes correct script, you paste a finished block.

Step by step

  1. Open parayoo.app in a browser tab next to your Word or Docs window.
  2. Tap the microphone and speak your paragraph in Malayalam. Use your natural Kerala dialect — Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thrissur or Kannur are all supported.
  3. Tap Format. This adds punctuation, capitalisation and paragraph breaks — important for a document that has to read cleanly.
  4. Copy the Malayalam text and paste it into Word or Google Docs.
  5. Set a Malayalam font in Word/Docs if needed (Noto Sans Malayalam, Manjari, or any Unicode Malayalam font). Because Parayoo outputs standard Unicode, the text renders correctly in any of them.

Tips for long documents

  • Dictate in sections. Speak a paragraph, format, paste — then the next. Easier to review than one long take.
  • Use voice commands for structure: say "പുതിയ വരി" for a new line, "കോമ" for a comma, "ഫുൾ സ്റ്റോപ്പ്" for a full stop.
  • Keep English words in English while speaking — names, brands, technical terms. They paste through unchanged.

Does the formatting survive pasting?

Yes. Parayoo outputs plain Unicode Malayalam, so it pastes cleanly into Word and Docs and inherits your document's styles. If you paste and see boxes instead of letters, switch the selection to a Malayalam Unicode font — the text is correct, only the display font needs to support Malayalam.

Frequently asked

Can I voice type Malayalam directly inside Microsoft Word?

Word's own dictation isn't tuned for Malayalam dialects. The reliable path is to voice type in Parayoo and paste the clean Malayalam into Word.

Will it work in Google Docs too?

Yes — the same copy-paste flow works in Google Docs, on desktop or mobile browsers.

Is it free?

Yes, 200 words per day free with no signup. Longer documents may need a word pack (from ₹79).

Once you've written one Malayalam document by voice, going back to keyboard-hunting feels absurd. Speak it, format it, paste it.
