What Malayalam speech to text does

Malayalam speech to text converts spoken Malayalam into written Malayalam script. You talk; the recognizer produces മലയാളം in standard Unicode, correctly formed — chillu letters (ൻ, ർ, ൽ, ൾ), conjunct consonants and ZWJ ligatures all handled, so the text renders properly in any Malayalam font and can be pasted anywhere. "Voice to text" is the same thing under a different name.

How to convert Malayalam speech to text

  1. 1

Open Parayoo and tap the microphone

Go to type.parayoo.app in any browser and tap the mic. Grant the one-time microphone permission when the browser asks.

  2. 2

    Speak in Malayalam

Speak naturally in your own Kerala dialect. Malayalam text appears in the editor as you talk — you do not have to wait until the end.

  3. 3

Punctuate as you speak, or afterwards

Say കോമ for a comma, ഫുൾ സ്റ്റോപ്പ് for a full stop and പുതിയ വരി for a new line. Or keep talking and tidy the punctuation in the editor when you finish.

  4. 4

    Correct, teach, export

Fix any misheard names in the editor and add them to your custom vocabulary so they are right next time. Then copy the text or export it to WhatsApp, Word, Google Docs or email.

What actually drives accuracy

Most advice about speech recognition tells you to speak slowly and clearly. For Malayalam that is mostly wrong. Here is what genuinely changes the result.

Your microphone matters more than your accent

The single biggest driver of accuracy is how cleanly your voice reaches the mic. A phone held at normal distance in a quiet room does well in any Kerala dialect. A laptop mic across a noisy room does badly in all of them. If results are poor, change the room before you change how you speak.

Speak in phrases, not word by word

Speech recognition uses surrounding words to choose between similar-sounding options, so an over-enunciated word-by-word delivery is actually harder to transcribe than natural connected speech. Speak the way you would to a person.

Proper nouns are where errors concentrate

Everyday Malayalam transcribes well; names do not. Place names, family names and organisation names are the usual culprits, because the recognizer has no way to guess a spelling it has never seen. This is exactly what custom vocabulary is for.

English words inside Malayalam stay English

You do not need to switch modes to say WhatsApp, Google or iPhone mid-sentence. They are kept in Latin script and joined to Malayalam case markers with a hyphen — WhatsApp-ൽ, Google-ൽ — which is how people actually write them.

Malayalam speech to text — FAQ

Is Malayalam speech to text free?
Yes. Parayoo gives you 100 words per day free with no signup and no card on file. Voice-to-text, Manglish conversion and exports are all in the free tier. Word packs from ₹79 unlock more daily capacity, and AI formatting runs on those word credits.
What is the difference between speech to text and voice to text?
Nothing — they are two names for the same thing, converting spoken Malayalam into written Malayalam. Some people search 'speech to text malayalam' and others 'voice to text malayalam'. Parayoo is both.
Does Parayoo do Malayalam text to speech?
No — that is the opposite direction. Parayoo converts speech into text. For Malayalam text to speech, use VoisLabs (voislabs.com).
How accurate is Malayalam speech recognition?
Accuracy on everyday connected speech is high across Kerala dialects — Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kannur — because Parayoo applies curated Malayalam phrase hints rather than a single flattened model. Errors cluster on proper nouns and in noisy recordings, both of which you can improve: add names to custom vocabulary, and record somewhere quieter.
Can I fix a word it keeps getting wrong?
Yes. Add it to your custom vocabulary and the recognizer will prefer your spelling from then on. This is the fastest fix for family names, place names and terms specific to your work.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Parayoo runs in any modern mobile or desktop browser — Chrome, Safari, Firefox — with nothing to install. Open it, tap the mic and speak.
Can I add punctuation by voice?
Yes. Say കോമ for a comma, ഫുൾ സ്റ്റോപ്പ് for a full stop and പുതിയ വരി for a new line. There is also an AI formatting pass that adds punctuation and paragraph breaks to a finished draft; that one runs on paid word credits.
Does the text appear as I speak or only at the end?
As you speak. Malayalam text lands in the editor while you are still talking, so you can see it forming and stop to correct course rather than discovering a problem after five minutes of dictation.
I already have a recording — can I use that instead?
Yes. Use the upload option rather than the microphone, and Parayoo will transcribe an existing audio file. See the Malayalam audio to text page for formats and size limits.
